Memorials
Contemporary American Sites of Mourning
_

An ongoing documentary project exploring contemporary memorials sites and places of mourning across the American landscape. These sites – often at or very close to the actual location of the tragedy – are places of mourning for relatives of those killed as well as a place of reflection for the general public. So far I have photographed at the World Trade Center site where tourists visit, the scene in Shanksville, PA, where flight 93 crashed on Sept. 11, 2001, and Section 60 in Arlington National Cemetery where many of the military killed in Afghanistan and Iraq are buried. In the coming months I plan to document memorials and sites at Oklahoma City, Virginia Tech, New Orleans, and Columbine, Colorado.
